This policy describes what data the Menutee app and the menutee.app website collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. We aim for the minimum collection needed to make the product work — no analytics, no third-party trackers, no advertising.
Menutee is an informational tool, not a medical device or service. It helps you find restaurants and dishes that fit the dietary preferences you set (diet codes, allergens, per-portion macro caps). The grading is based on menu data and reference recipes and is provided "as is" with no guarantee of completeness or accuracy — restaurants change ingredients, kitchens cross-contaminate, and menu data can be out of date.
Menutee does not diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any disease, and does not replace advice from a doctor, registered dietitian, or other qualified healthcare professional. If you have a medical condition (including diabetes, coeliac disease, food allergies, or any other condition where food choice matters clinically), use Menutee as a starting point only. Always confirm ingredients directly with the restaurant before ordering if you have a severe allergy or other safety-critical dietary need.
When you sign in, we receive your email address (and a Cognito-assigned identifier) from Amazon Cognito, our authentication provider. We use it to identify your account.
When you create or edit a diet profile, we store the profile data on our backend, linked to your account. A profile contains: profile name, diet codes you want flagged (e.g. Vegan, Halal, Low-lactose), allergens you want flagged, per-portion macro caps (calories, carbs, sugar, saturated fat, sodium), and any optional notes you add.
When you grant location permission, your device's coordinates are used to query nearby restaurants. The coordinates are sent to our backend only as part of the nearby-restaurants request and are not stored on the backend after the response.
When you submit a photo of a menu (the menu-scan feature), the image is sent to our backend and then forwarded to a third-party vision model for text extraction (see Section 4). We do not retain the image after the extraction completes.
Account and profile data is stored on Amazon Web Services in the European Union (Frankfurt, eu-central-1) region. Authentication is handled by Amazon Cognito (us-east-1). The Cognito user pool stores your email, a username, and — if you signed up directly with a password — a hashed password. We do not see or store your password in plaintext.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing. We use a small set of service providers strictly to operate the product:
You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@menutee.app. We will respond within 30 days.
To delete your account directly: sign in, open the Profile screen, and tap Delete account. This permanently removes your account, every diet profile you've created, your saved allergens and diet codes, and your Cognito identity record. Backup snapshots are purged within 30 days of the deletion.
The authentication library (AWS Amplify) stores session tokens in the browser's IndexedDB and localStorage on the web build, and in the platform secure storage (Keychain on iOS / macOS, Encrypted Shared Preferences on Android) on mobile. These tokens are required to keep you signed in across sessions and are not used for tracking.
The app is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we will delete the account.
If we change this policy materially, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where reasonable, notify signed-in users in-app.
